Web Stalkers
Chapter 3 -
Web Weirdos

Web Pornography Addicts

Online pornography is an area that benefits greatly from the perceived anonymity offered by the Internet.  Many people, who would not feel comfortable walking into an adult bookstore or purchasing pornography from their local convenience store, barely hesitate before opening up a web browser and viewing the same sort of material online.

In much of the world, pornography depicting exclusively adults is legal.  However, there are countries in which simply logging onto a pornographic website could subject them to criminal prosecution. Whether legal or not, study after study has demonstrated the negative impact of pornography.  Among the psychological ramifications are the development of anti-social attitudes and an increased aggressiveness towards women.

Clearly, where pornography is legal, people need to make up their own minds about their exposure to the materials.  However, when the viewing of pornography becomes a compulsion and begins to impact work and personal relationships, it can be as destructive as any other addiction.
