Protecting the Operating System
It is important to make sure that the operating
system on the computer is completely updated or patched. Operating

discover a weakness. When it becomes apparent that there is
vulnerability in the system, manufacturers will devise a patch for
the repair. As long as new breaches of security are located, new

can be configured for automatic retrieval and installation.
Retrieving these updates in a timely manner is important since they
are made available to counter a weakness or deficiency in the
program. The operating system itself will also notify the user when
updates are available. In addition, Microsoft has utility called
Windows Update that will help system users locate and install
updates and patches that match the version of the system they are
running.
