SQL Server Tips by Burleson |
Proactive Action
The first and most important step in PLM
involves in the proactive initiation of action. In upcoming
chapters, each of the activities that make up this step will be
covered in detail; however, this phase can be boiled down into three
key tasks:
-
Creating winning physical database
designs.
-
Stress testing database designs and
accompanying system components. According to information
compiled by Gartner group, only 10% of IT professionals are
actively performance testing their database servers prior to the
first day of production.
-
Instituting change control to protect
proven physical designs and configuration settings.
-
Success in these three endeavors can
lead to great performing SQL Server systems. Conversely,
failure to carry these activities out can yield a ticket to
disaster.
