Publish
and Subscribe
The publish and
subscribe feature of HTML DB allows components from one application to
be shared with other applications. What this provides is a single
point of maintenance for the LOV. Any changes made to the LOV would
be updated in the master LOV and published to the applications that
have subscribed to it. A common use for this is to have a Global
application where shared components such as Lists of Values are
maintained so other applications can subscribe to them.
The example below will create a List of Values
with the As a Copy of an Existing List of Values option. The steps
outlined are going to use the PRODUCTS list of values in the Sample
Application installed with the creation of a new workspace in HTML DB.
1.
On the Shared Components page, click the Lists of Values link.
2.
Click the Create button.
3.
On the Source page, choose the As a Copy of an Existing List of
Values option and then click Next.
4.
On the Copy From page, for Copy From Application, choose the
Sample Application item and then click Next.
5.
On the New Lists of Values page:
-
For the PRODUCTS item, the To Name can be
left set to Copy of PRODUCTS.
-
In the Copy column, select the Copy and
Subscribe option next to the Copy of PRODUCTS item.
-
Click the Copy List of Values button.
At this point, the program returns to the Lists of
Values page. From there, click on the link for Copy of PRODUCTS. On
the Edit List of Values page, the Subscription region will be visible
as shown in Figure 10.21. This shows the LOV is subscribed to the
PRODUCTS LOV in application 100. Anytime the LOV changes, the Refresh
LOVbutton can be used to refresh
the data from the master LOV.
