Chapter 7 Oracle Storage and Object Internal Scripting

Prior to Oracle8, the DBA was concerned with four major table issues: Who owns them? Where were they created? Are they clustered? What is their space utilization? With newer versions, the DBA must also ask: Is the table an object or relational table? Does the table contain REFs, VARRAYS, or NESTED TABLES?  Is the table (if relational) partitioned? This section offers scripts and techniques to answer these questions.

The Schema Manager

The , found in the Oracle Administrator toolbar, allows GUI-based management of database schema objects. The screen for Oracle version 7.3 of this product is shown in Figure 7.1. The Oracle Administrator is fine for viewing database objects, but it lacks suitable report capabilities. Thus, the ability to monitor database objects via scripts is still critical. We will examine a few simple reports. First, take a look at Figure 7.2, which shows the cluster of dba_ views used to monitor tables.

Mike has priced his collection of scripts at $49.95, less than a dime per script.  You can download them immediately at this link:
