Chapter 12 HIPAA Compliance & Oracle
Solutions
Introduction
So far, we have discussed the various
facilities and mechanisms provided within Oracle to build and
maintain a secured database system. We sincerely hope this
information helps in achieving the goal of creating a database
compliant with any type of regulatory or internal requirements. The
objective of this book was not only to present all such available
mechanisms, but also to provide a jumpstart on building the
compliance immediately. To that end, we will summarize all concepts
explained in earlier chapters and show how they relate to meeting
various components of HIPAA regulations.
HIPAA
Requirements
In order to present a holistic and independent
view of the requirements, we turned to the independent industry
association – Association for Electronic Health Care Transaction,
Inc. (www.afehct.org), of Elmsford, NY, which has developed an
excellent checklist for HIPAA security compliance. In this chapter
we will take that checklist and see how Oracle technology can be
used to satisfy the requirements.
