Oracle Services & Resource Manager

Article by Rampant Author Brian Carr

One of the best features of Oracle 10g RAC is Services. With Services, client connections can be divided into logical connection targets. These targets can be any combination of nodes on the cluster with specific failover practices applied. In addition, Services can use Resource Manager Plans (not related to the DRM feature from the previous Finding). With Resource Manager Plans, connections can be throttled in terms of CPU usage, parallelization, UNDO space, and other features. There are also highly complex possibilities, such as query estimation and throttling based on estimated time.
