64-bit Oracle

Article by Rampant Author Brian Carr

Migrating to a 64-bit architecture will allow native support for a large SGA and will optimize performance overall by removing the extended buffer cache mechanism. This also allows for other dynamic pools to be added for performance reasons. Hugepages could optionally be implemented to present a small improvement in performance on the current 32-bit architecture. However, the greatest improvement comes from going to a 64-bit environment and using hugepages.
